Dental Sealants

Think of them as raincoats for your teeth. When the cavity-causing bacteria that live in everyone’s mouth meet leftover food particles, they produce acids that can create holes in teeth. These holes are cavities.

After sealant has been applied it keeps those bits of food out and stops bacteria and acid from settling on your teeth- just like a raincoat keeps you clean and dry during a storm.

When should teeth be sealed. For maximum protection, dental sealants should be applied as soon as possible after permanent tooth eruption. This would be around age 6 for most children.

Adults benefit from sealants too. No matter how well or often you brush, toothbrush bristles can’t penetrate all the grooves located on your teeth’s chewing surfaces. The dental sealant helps prevent decay from developing in these vulnerable areas.

Step by Step of how sealants are placed.

Professional Cleanings and Preventive Care

Our hygienist gives you the best cleaning twice a year from kids to adults. We recommend your child’s first visit to be around one year of age, or about six months after their first tooth comes in. We then perform “Happy Visits” to check on their teeth as well as to let the new patient become familiar with us and our office. We also provide preventive care to your family to help prevent any decay. We do fluoride treatments on children twice a year and we perform sealants, or a protective coating on the chewing surface, covering newly erupted permanent molars.
